This study adopts different approaches from typical statistical studies of the past, which tended to describe an MBSR program¡¯s effect on stress does not form a quantitative linear relationship, but forms a non-linear relationship i.e. a change with discontinuous point, this study attempts to apply to catastrophe model the aspects of change in stress by means of catastrophe theory. Seventeen people participated in this study. This study aims to: 1) validate whether the aspects of change in stress associated with an modified MBSR program are suitable for catastrophe model or not; 2) examine the MBSR sessions in which catastrophe phenomenon occurred; and 3) discover the models that best describe the change in stress, by drawing a comparison among linear model, nonlinear model, and catastrophe model. As a result of the analysis, there appeared the polarization which might suggest the applicability of catastrophe theory. It can be seen that the modified MBSR program brings out changes in the participants¡¯ stress, with the catastrophe phenomenon appearing in the middle of the program duration. This study is significant in that it verified the correctness of its mathematical model in a statistical manner by assuming the effectiveness of the mind-body healing program as a mathematical model.
